What everyone had to say.

I finally got to go on everyone's blog today.  I wish I had more time to read what they all said on the artists we read about.  I am sure that I would have learned alot more about each of the artist.

Accidents

While I was supposed to be working on homework, and wasn't I came across an actor.  His name is Lin-Manuel Miranda, and is in the Broadway play In the Heights. The first video was from his wedding, and I think it is so funny!  I googled his name and found the second video, and was inspired amazing and educated.  I never new anything about Alexander Hamilton, but I learned alot from his video.  I am always amazed at how some people can over come.  Please watch for a smile, and to be inspired by what other have over come.  Have a great weekend!

Untitled Film Still #3. 1977
Cindy Sherman:
This picture reminded me of the movie Psycho. It was interesting to see a woman artist work.  Again I found her work to be boring and uninteresting.  I like the humor in the photographs from Teun Hocks, I don't understand the significance behind her photos.  I really found her color photographs difficult to look at, the were creepy.  The women looked like mannequins, very unrealistic.

Jeff Wall, Milk, 1984, transparency, light box

Jeff Wall was my least favorite artist that we learned about.  While I didn't care for Gregory Crewsdon's work I found it much more appealing than Jeff Wall's.  Mr. Wall's work is very simple, some what boring to me.  I didn't care for the subject that Mr. Crewsdon used, there was so much more to look at.

Teun Hocks
Untitled (Behind the desk)
I really enjoyed Mr. Hock's work.  I would have loved to post everyone of his pictures, they really make me smile.  I like this one because I can relate to how this man feels.  When I am writing out my bills I feel like it is draining the very lifes blood out of me.  I like how he has the boring brown colors, and it has a dark feeling to it except for the white papers.
Untitled (Ophelia), 2001
Gregory Crewdson's
I found his work to be very dark and sad.  I did enjoy this picture because it reminded me of the famous painting of Ophelia.  I think that Mr Crewdson"s work is very different from the other artists we viewed.  His work has much more detail to them.  I can appreciate that amount of time and work that he puts in to each photograph, it really shows in the final piece.

Project 1 for class

I have a picture of myself, one of my girls, one of our piggie cage, and last I have a picture of the sky.  I hope to take the picture of my girls and place it in the cage.  I plan on having the cage hover in front of me while I am looking over it.  I'm not sure if I'm going to use the sky picture for the background.

This is the final portrait.

These are some of the small blocks that he painted for his self portrait.

TCNJ HERE I COME!

OK, this is my fourth attempt at trying to finish my first blog.  Everything happens for a reason, and its the first time I've laugh today.  I have been so nervous about starting this semester.  I am a full-time student and full-time mother of Elizabeth 16 and Nicole 11. I have been married to my husband Bill for 18 years. Two and a half years ago I started going to college for the second time in my life.  In May of this year I graduated with my associates degree in Fine arts.  I am going to TCNJ for my bachelors degree in Art Education.  I love art!!! I love learning everything about how to make it, artist, the history.  I am mostly an abstract artist.  Five years ago I was diagnosed with an eye condition call Kerataconous, this means that my corneas are slowly deterring. It makes things tough but not imposable.  One of my favorite artist is Chuck Close.  Mr. Close is wheel chair bound, but has found a way to still create amazing pieces of art.  My favorite pictures are the portraits he does with the small blocks of swirlling color.  The small blocks are so interesting by themselves to look at, but when you back away and look at the whole painting it comes to life as a beautiful portrait.  Mr. Close didn't let his handicap hold him back from doing what he loves, and I want to be the same way.  I my be a visually impaired visual art student, but its not going to stop me from doing the best I can.  Never stop believing in yourself,  it may take awhile (like 27 years) but your dreams do come true!
